The SC Magdeburg Handball
Founded on March 1, 1955, in Magdeburg, the capital of the state of Saxony-Anhalt, SC Magdeburg Handball is a historical club of the German championship. After a successful start in the 60's, the club won its first two titles in the 1969-70 season with the championship and the cup. Later in the 80's, the club established its dominance by winning 6 consecutive championship titles between 1980 and 1985.
After the reunification of Germany, SC Magdeburg had more mixed results in the Bundesliga, but managed to win the EHF Champions League three times, in 1978, 1981 and 2002.
In the 2021-22 season, the Green and Red won the championship ahead of Kiel, 20 years after their last title in 2001, and reached the C3 final against Benfica Lisbon.

After 8 seasons in the Bundesliga, under the colors of Magdeburg, Jannick Green has committed to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2022. With the Danish national team, he represents with Niklas Landin one of the best pairs of goalkeepers in the world, whose record speaks for itself: 1 title at the Olympic Games in 2016, 1 gold medal at the World Championships in 2019 and 1 silver medal at the European Championships in 2014.
After 6 seasons in the Liqui Moly Starligue, under the colors of Montpellier and Chambéry, Nikola Portner joined SC Magdeburg Handball in the summer of 2022, to replace Jannick Green. The German club made a nice move at the mercato by signing the Best Goalkeeper of the French Championship in 2022. With Montpellier, alongside Michael Guigou and Valentin Porte, he notably won the Champions League in 2018.

Located in the city center of Magdeburg, not far from the Elbe River, the GETEC Arena is the official home of SC Magdeburg Handball. With a capacity of approximately 7,000 seats, the arena is just a few hundred meters from the MDCC Arena, where FC Magdeburg's Bundesliga 2 soccer team plays.
In the 2021-22 season, the club won at home against Sporting CP (36 - 35), HBC Nantes (30 - 28) and Pays d'Aix (31 - 27).
