Olympique de Marseille in short
Founded in 1899, Marseille are one of the French League’s most iconic clubs, boasting a remarkable history, a long line of gifted players who have worn their traditional colours of white and blue with pride, and an impressive list of trophies lifted over the past century. To date, the club has won 9 Ligue 1 Uber Eats titles, 10 French Cup, 3 League Cup and 1 UEFA Champions League in 1993.
Since the beginning of the 1990s, Marseille have been regarded as Paris Saint-Germain’s principal domestic rivals: when the two clubs lock horns in the unmissable Classique, the motivation to win is even stronger than usual, for players and fans alike.
At the end of the 2019/20 season, the club finished 2nd in the ranking, behind Paris Saint-Germain, ensuring its qualification for the next Champions League. The club was part of Group C, including Manchester City, Olympiakos and FC Porto, but ended at the 4th position.
After the departure of Jorge Sampaoli, the club appointed Igro Tudor as new Head Coach. Former player of Juventus Turin just finished a convincing 2021/22 season on the bench of Hellas Verone. On June 23, 2023, OM appointed former Villarreal and Valencia coach Marcelino as new Head Coach.
Consecutive to the Europa League draw made on August 27, 2021, by Andres Palop and Marcos Senna, Olympique de Marseille was part of group E alongside Lazio Roma, Galatasaray and Lokomotiv Moscow. The club, which did not manage to qualify for the next round, finishing behind Galatasaray and Lazio, was however transferred to the Europa League Conference for the first edition of this new continental competition.
After a playoff win against Qarabag, the Marseilles team won against FC Bale in the round of sixteen. Milik's teammates managed to get out of the trap set by PAOK Salonika in quarter final after an explosive double confrontation. The adventure of Olympique de Marseille stopped at the doors of a new European final following their elimination in semi-final against Feyenoord Rotterdam, historical club of Eredivisie.

A little more of Marseille..
In the Bouches-du-Rhône region, OM is a real institution, but sports, in the broadest sense of the word, also have an important place there:
- The Open 13 Provence, part of the ATP World Tour, is organized every year at the Palais des Sports in Marseille. Andy Murray, Nick Kyrgios, and Daniil Medvedev have all won prizes at the tournament.
- Marseille will also be in the spotlight during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, with the organization of the soccer and sailing events.
- In the 7th arrondissement, near the Pointe Carinade, is the Cercle des Nageurs de Marseille. Former members with impressive records of achievement, such as Laure Manaudou and Alain Bernard, have made the CNM famous.
- Marseille is also the birthplace of Zinedine Zidane, a Real Madrid and French national team legend, Eric Cantona, a former Manchester United star who trained at AJ Auxerre, and Samir Nasri, the little prince of the Velodrome who played for Arsenal and Manchester City.
