Founded on August 23, 1924, AS Monaco is the Principality of Monaco’s professional football club. Run by Russian businessman Dmitry Rybolovlev since 2011, the club had been coached by Niko Kovac, former player and coach of Bayern Munich, between July 2020 and January 2022. His successor Philippe Clement was appointed on January 3, 2022, after having played for and coached Club Brugge, present in the same Champions League group with Paris Saint-Germain. 

Monaco have played in the Ligue 1 Uber Eats since 2013, following their 2012/13 Ligue 2 BKT championship-winning campaign. Over their history, the Monegasques have been crowned champions of France eight times, have won the French Cup five times and the League Cup once. They have enjoyed a number of exciting runs in Europe, even reaching the final of the 2004 UEFA Champions League under Didier Deschamps, loosing against FC Porto.

Their traditional rivals are Nice, with whom they compete in the Côte d’Azur derby. The hotly contested match-up is the Ligue 1 Uber Eats's geographically closest rivalry, with just 20 kilometres separating the two towns.

Monaco is also known for its excellent youth academy, La Turbie, where a number of world-class players have blossomed, such as Lilian Thuram, Emmanuel Petit, David Trezeguet and Thierry Henry. Prior to signing for Paris Saint -Germain, Kylian Mbappé also defended the colours of Monaco. During season 2016-17, he showcased the full range of his talents in the French League and Champions League, putting in eye-catching displays versus Manchester City, Juventus and Borussia Dortmund.

The club finished at the third place in 2020/21 Ligue 1 Uber Eats thanks to great results during the second half of the championship. Indeed, the team has a record of 16 wins, 3 draws and 2 losses in 21 games.

After beating Sparta Prague in the third round of qualifiers for Champions League, Niko Kovac' players lost against Chakthar Donetsk in the play-off. As a result, Monaco was playing in Europa League for the 2021/22 season. Within group B, they had met PSV Eindhoven, Real Sociedad and Sturm Graz. After successful performances, the club of the Principality managed to qualify for the next round, finishing 1st. Sofiane Diop's teammates have been defeated by Braga in the Round of 8, despite a 1 - 1 draw on the second leg in Monaco on March 17, 2022.

The Parisians against Monaco

Paris Saint-Germain welcomed Monaco at Parc des Princes on April 15, 2018, the Red and Blue achieved an impressive performance, with a 7 - 1 victory. That result enabled Paris Saint-Germain to clinch their seventh French League title with five matchdays to spare.

On November 20, 2020, the Parisians have been travelling to Monaco as part of championship matchday 11. Despite Kylian Mbappé's two goals in first half, the Red and Blue were defeated 3 - 2, with goals from Volland (52', 65') and Fabregas (84'). On February 21, 2021, Mauricio Pochettino's players will be facing AS Monaco at Parc des Princes, as part of French championship.

On May 19, 2021, the Red and Blue had defeated AS Monaco 2 - 0 on French Cup final at Stade de France. With goals from Icardi and Mbappé, Paris Saint-Germain won its 14th trophy in this competition.

Trained at AS Bondy and then at INF Clairefontaine, Kylian Mbappé is a striker who very quickly attracted the interest of the biggest clubs in France and Europe. In 2013, it was finally AS Monaco who managed to enroll him, before signing his first professional contract two years later. He took part in the Monegasque side's fine run in the 2017/18 Champions League, scoring his first two goals in the competition against Borussia Dortmund in the quarter-finals. On April 21, 2019, on Ligue 1 Uber Eats matchday 33, Kylian Mbappé put in a top-flight performance against his training club, scoring a hat-trick at Parc des Princes. In January 2020, he scored two more goals against his former team, this time at Louis II Stadium.

Born on August 12, 1990, in Sarcelles, Wissam Ben Yedder began his career in Garge-Lés-Gonesse and then in Saint Denis. Talented in small spaces thanks to his experience in futsal, he then joined the Alforville club (94) before signing for FC Toulouse in 2010. From 2012, Wissam Ben Yedder became a key member of the team, establishing himself as one of the top scorers in the Ligue 1 Uber Eats. After 6 years in Toulouse, he joined the Spanish league with Sevilla in the summer of 2016. He scored his first goal with Sevilla in the first day of the championship against Espanyol Barcelona. In 2017, he became the first Sevilla player to score a hat-trick in the Champions League, and in 2018, the very first Frenchman to score twice against Manchester United, allowing the Sevillans to qualify for the Champions League quarter-finals. On August 14, 2019, he signed his return to France by joining AS Monaco. He played his first international game with France against Colombia on March 23, 2018, and scored his first goal for Les Bleus against Andorra on June 11th, 2019, a game in which France won 4 goals to 0.

Located right in the heart of the Principality, Stade Louis II was officially opened on 25 January 1985. Monaco play their home matches there, but it is also serves as the headquarters of the club and its academy, and hosts a variety of sporting events, such as the world-famous annual Diamond League athletics meet. The stadium is known for its refined architecture and the series of arches that tower over the east stand.

During the 2022/23 season in Ligue 1 Uber Eats, Monaco's players performed very well against Nantes (4-1), Brest (1-0) et Lorient (3-1).

There are close to 40 car parks available in Monaco, including the Stade Louis II parking facility, which offers preferential rates on matchdays. The club has also helped to launch a carpooling network that helps to organise and facilitate fan journeys within the region.

  • The streets of Monaco are also the scene of the most prestigious Formula 1 Grand Prix in the world. Ayrton Senna, Michael Schumacher or Max Verstappen have all won this unique Grand Prix. The Principality was also the birthplace of Charles Leclerc, a Ferrari driver and winner of the Spa and Monza GPs.
  • Located under the stands of the Louis II Stadium, the Gaston-Médecin hall hosts the games of the Roca Team, the AS Monaco basketball team, winner of the EuroCup in 2021.
  • Every year, Monaco lives to the rhythm of the Rolex Monte Carlo Masters, one of the most prestigious tennis tournaments in the world played on clay. Founded in 1897, the Monte Carlo Master 1000 has seen players such as Illie Nastase, Bjorn Borg and more recently Stéfanos Tsitsipas add their names to its list of winners. The King of Monte Carlo remains Rafael Nadal with more than 10 victories in this mythical tournament.
