PARIS vs

LOSC Lille in short

Lille Olympique Sporting Club, or LOSC, was established on September 23, 1944, following a merger between two Lille-based football clubs, Sporting Club Fivois and Olympique Lillois, the latter side having claimed the first-ever French League title in 1933. Subsequently, the club would enjoy two successful periods in distinct eras: the first came in the aftermath of World War II, when they secured two league titles and won the French Cup five times between 1946 and 1955. In the years that followed, Les Dogues, beset by financial problems, went through difficult times, suffering relegation to the second division on several occasions and even losing their professional status in 1969. In 1999, the club was privatised and began experiencing success once more, starting with a Ligue 2 BKT in 2000.

Since that promotion, Lille have been a mainstay of the Ligue 1 Uber Eats, winning both the championship and the cup in season 2010-11 and qualifying regularly for the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League.

The club was part of Europa League Group H, alongside AC Milan, Celtic Glasgow and Sparta Prague. On November 5, 2020, the LOSC defeated AC Milan 3 - 0 at San Siro, with a hat-trick from Yazici. The Rossoneri had never been defeated by such a score in their history in the European Cup. The Dogues have been eliminated in the Round of 32 by Ajax Amsterdam.

Lille had an exceptional 2020/21 season in Ligue 1 Uber Eats as Lille’s players won the championship with 83 points thanks to their win against Angers during the last matchday.

Since June 2022, Paulo Fonseca is the new head coach of the club, after having been on the FC Porto and AS Roma bench.

Consecutive to the 2021/22 Champions League group stage, the LOSC ended at the 1st position of the group, above RB Salzbourg, FC Séville and Wolfsburg. In the Round of 16, the Dogues were facing Chelsea, and were defeated 2 - 0 at Stamford Bridge then 2 - 1 at Pierre Mauroy Stadium.

The LOSC's best result in the Champions League to date remains a Round of 16 against Manchester United in the 2006-07 season.

On the occasion of the matchday 3 of the 2022/23 season, the Parc des Princes hosted LOSC for a match between the last winners of the two previous editions of the French Ligue 1 championship. Thanks to a collective performance of great quality and exceptional feats of Neymar, Messi and Mbappé, Paris Saint-Germain won 7-1. During this match, Kylian Mbappé made even more history in the French championship. That night, he scored another hat-trick and the fastest goal in the history of the championship, equal to the one scored by Michel Rio in 1992 during a Caen-Cannes in only 8 seconds of play.
