PARIS vs

RC Strasbourg in short

Founded in 1906 as FC Neudorf, Racing Club Strasbourg Alsace played their first competitive matches in the German league in 1909 and won their first trophy in 1952: the French Cup. Their glory years came in the 1970s, when they won their sole French league title, in 1979, and went on to reach the quarter-finals of the European Cup the following season, before losing to an Ajax Amsterdam side featuring a young Frank Rijkaard.

Relegated on several occasions in the 2000s, Racing found themselves in the CFA2 (the fifth tier of French football at the time) in the 2011-12 season. Climbing their way back up through the leagues in the years that followed, they made their return to Ligue 1 Uber Eats in 2016-17.

The club ended the 2019-20 campaign at 10th place, just ahead of Angers and Bordeaux. In addition to that one league championship triumph, Racing have won three Ligue 2 BKT titles, three French Cup and two League Cup.

Strasbourg had to fight until the last matchday of Ligue 1 Uber Eats 2020-21 to guarantee its place in the first division next season. The win against Nice during the 37th matchday was extremely important for the team. The fifteenth place of the club allowed Thierry Laurey to leave Strasbourg on a high note before the arrival of the next coach, Julien Stephan.

The last trophy won by the club is a League Cup in 2019 against Guingamp.

Earlier in the evening, new players Hakimi, Ramos, Wijnaldum, Donnarumma and Messi had been presented to the Parisian public.

The return match of the matchday 35 of the 2021/22 season between Racing and PSG was once again prolific: losing 3-1 at the 75th minute, Julien Stéphan's men found the resources to come back to the score at the end of the match thanks to a Meinau on fire (3-3).

Parisians' travels on Alsatian field have always been the subject of hard-fought matches!

A little more of Strasbourg..

In Alsace, sports occupy an important place, with Racing of course, but not only:

  • The SIG Strasbourg is a historic club of the French basketball championship, winner of the Jeep Elite and the French Cup. Vincent Collet, Axel Toupane, or Frank Ntilikina have worn the colors of the SIG.
  • It is also the birthplace of Paul Henri Mathieu, member of the French national team and having reached the Round of 16 at Roland Garros and Wimbledon, as well as Arsene Wenger, famous coach of AS Monaco and Arsenal.
