PARIS vs

Toulouse FC in short

Founded in 1970, Toulouse Football Club has been playing at the Stadium since its creation. In 1982, the club joined the first division and finished its first three seasons in the top 5 of the French championship. The 90s were more complicated for the Purple, who were relegated three times during the decade, until a downgrading to the third division, called National, in 2001.

After making his fortune in the airline catering business, Olivier Sadran arrived in Toulouse in 2001, becoming one of the youngest club presidents. Since 2003 and their return to Ligue 1 Uber Eats, the Toulousans have not been relegated in 17 years, a symbol of their regularity in the French elite.

The 2015/16 season will remain engraved in the memory of the Toulouse people. Second to last in the ranking and 10 points behind at the end of matchday 28, the Purple then achieved the unthinkable, confirming their place in the evening of the last day. Led by a Pascal Dupraz specially recruited for this mission, Toulouse will finish in 17th place and will be maintained in Ligue 1 Uber Eats.

At the end of the 2019/20 season, Toulouse finished at the 20th position of the championship, synonymous with relegation to Ligue 2 BKT.

Shortly after this dangerous descent into the second division, a new era began for the TFC following the take over by the American investment fund RedBird Capital Partners. After a first year in which the club narrowly missed out on a return to Ligue 1 after a playoff defeat to FC Nantes, the Pitchouns, now coached by Philippe Montanier, had an exceptional 2021/22 season: Toulouse finished top of Ligue 2 BKT and returned to the elite of French soccer.

The famous Garonne derby, between Toulouse and Bordeaux, often gives rise to lively encounters between both clubs. Toulouse Football Club has not finished ahead of Bordeaux in the Ligue 1 Uber Eats ranking since the 2007/08 season.

On October 1, 1986, TFC eliminated Diego Maradona's Napoli during a UEFA Cup double header.

A little more of Toulouse...

Toulouse is the 4th largest city in France and is also known for its atypical architecture with its pink brick buildings which earned it the nickname of "pink city". In Toulouse, beyond the TFC, sport has always held a particularly important place:

  • Located in the south west of France, in Toulouse, rugby is a true religion. The Stade Toulousain, the most successful club in the Top 14 and the one with the most European Cups, has been represented by emblematic players such as Vincent Clerc or more recently Antoine Dupont.
  • Handball also has an important place in Toulouse, where Fenix Toulouse is a real outsider of Paris Saint-Germain Handball in the Liqui Moly Starligue.
  • Toulouse is also the birthplace of Daniel Bravo, who played 280 games from 1989 to 1996 for Paris Saint-Germain, but also of Blaise Matuidi, who also played for Troyes and ASSE during his years in Ligue 1 Uber Eats.
