PARIS vs Troyes

A quick overview of ESTAC

Founded in 1986, ESTAC is a club used to Ligue 1 Uber Eats and one of the major football clubs in Eastern France. After several successful seasons in Ligue 1 Uber Eats between 1999 and 2002 as well as between 2004 and 2007, Troyes was relegated to Ligue 2 BKT and remained there until 2012. The period from 2012 to 2020 corresponds to a period of resurgence for the club with numerous appearances in Ligue 1 Uber Eats.

For the 2021-22 season, ESTAC is back in Ligue 1 Uber Eats after a successful season in Ligue 2 BKT, which ended with a championship title with Laurent Batlles as coach. On January 3, 2022, the club appointed Bruno Irles, former AS Monaco player and US Quevilly-Rouen coach as new head coach. The players and him will be keen to defend their colours among the first division and honour their famous predecessors such as Jérôme Rothen and Blaise Matuidi.

ESTAC's most capped player is Benjamin Nivet. The mythical captain of the club spent 13 seasons in Troyes where he is both the most capped player (431 games) and the best scorer in the history of the club with 84 goals. He played his last match against AC Ajaccio in 2019 in the last matchday of the Ligue 2 BKT.

U18 ESTAC won the Gambardella cup in 2018 against Tours.

Parisians against Troyes

Before the 2021/22 season, the last encounter against ESTAC had taken place on 2017/18 Ligue 1 Uber Eats. The Parisians had won 2-0 thanks to goals from Ángel Di Maria and Christopher Nkunku. However, the squads were very different at that time and especially on the side of Troyes, which was still managed by Jean-Marc Furlan.

Troyes was facing PSG for the opening matchday of 2021/22 Ligue 1 Uber Eats. The Parisians won 2 - 1 with goals from Hakimi and Icardi. The return match at the Parc des Princes, on May 8, 2022, finished on a 2 - 2 draw, with goals from Marquinhos and Neymar for the Red and Blue.

The last scorer for Troyes against PSG is El Hajjam.

Players to follow Duel

Marquinhos Defender 14/05/1994

Born on May 14th, 1994, in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Marquinhos is one of PSG's key players. He arrived at PSG in 2013 and has been progressing ever since. This progression has enabled him to become captain of the team after the departure of his compatriot Thiago Silva. Solid in defence and always steady in the significant games, his showdowns with the strikers of Troyes will be very interesting to follow.

vs
Jimmy Giraudon Defender 16/01/1992

Born on January 16th 1992 in La Rochelle, Jimmy Giraudon has been playing for ESTAC since the 2016-17 season and his departure from GF38. The French defender was a key player in Troyes' rise to Ligue 1 Uber Eats at the end of the 2020-21 season. His leadership and experience allowed him to become the captain of the club in 2019, a role he's also holding for the club's return to the first division. ESTAC' defence was a fundamental aspect of the club's success in the 2020-21 season (3rd best defence in Ligue 2 BKT) and Jimmy Giraudon is a centrepiece of this.

The Stade de l'Aube

Avenue Robert Schumann, 10000 Troyes

Inaugurated in 1924, the Stade de l’Aube has been the scene of several memorable matches. This was particularly the case in 2002 during a UEFA Cup second leg match against Leeds United, where ESTAC came close to eliminating the 2001 Champions League semi-finalist. ESTAC's stadium has a capacity of 20,400.

During the 2022/23 season, ESTAC won decisive away matches in Monaco, Strasbourg and Clermont.

Located in the North-Eastern part of Troyes, the stadium is easily accessible by bus via line 1 from the city centre. In addition, there are approximately 400 parking spaces available at the stadium.

A little more of Troyes..

The prefecture of Aube has obviously vibrated in the 2000s thanks to ESTAC, and particularly in 2001 with the victory in the Intertoto Cup, a 7th place in Ligue 1 Uber Eats, as well as a ½ final of the French Cup:

  • Its training center has seen the emergence of renowned players such as Djibril Sidibé and Blaise Matuidi, both World Champions in 2018 under the command of Didier Deschamps. The first one has played for AS Monaco and LOSC, while the midfielder has played for AS Saint-Etienne and Paris Saint-Germain.
