Stade Rennais in short
Founded in 1901, Stade Rennais Football Club are the pride and joy of Rennes, the capital of the Brittany region. Nicolas Holveck is the President of the club since March 18, 2020. On March 4, 2021, the club revealed the name of its new coach: Bruno Genesio, former coach of Olympique Lyonnais between 2015 and 2019. In terms of honours, Stade Rennais have succeeded in French Cup in three occasions, in 1965, 1971 and 2019, and have taken part in two UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup competitions, three UEFA Cups, one UEFA Europe League and one Champions League.
After a convincing 2019-20 season, the club finished 3rd in the ranking, behind Olympique de Marseille and Paris Saint-Germain. Qualified for 2020-21 Champions League group stage, the club was part of Group E, alongside Chelsea, Séville and Krasnodar.
Though both sides have the greatest respect for each other and the match is always played in the right spirit, the famous Breton derby between Stade Rennais and FC Nantes arouses great passion and a carnival atmosphere. Adding a little spice to the fixture is the city of Nantes’ long historical association with Brittany. Once the administrative seat of the region, Nantes has not formed part of it since the 1950s, while Rennes is now Brittany’s sole official capital.
The 2020-21 season of Rennes was satisfying. The players qualified for Europa League Conference thanks to their 6th position in Ligue 1 Uber Eats, above Montpellier and Lens.
Consecutive to the draw made on August 27, 2021 by Lorik Cana, the club was part of groupe G alongside Tottenham, Vitesse Arnhem and NS Mura. On September 30, 2021, the club was the first French team to win a match in this new competition, after a convincing 2 - 1 victory against Vitesse Arnhem. The Rennais managed to qualify for the next round, finishing 1st of its group. The club was defeated by Leicester in the Round of 16, despite a 2 - 1 victory on the second leg at Roazhon Park, on March 17, 2022.

A little more of Rennes..
Capital of Brittany, Rennes and its inhabitants live to the rhythm of the Stade Rennais, its Roazhon Park... and its galettes saucisses! But not only:
- Handball is also in the spotlight with the Cesson Rennes Métropole Handball. French champion of Pro D2 in 2009 and 2020, the club has reached the ½ final of the French Cup and the League Cup, defeated respectively by Paris and Nantes.
- In tennis, the Open de Rennes is organized since 2006 in the capital of Ille-et-Vilaine, usually in the hall Le Liberté. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga won the first edition of the tournament in 2006, but other Frenchmen such as Julien Benneteau and Nicolas Mahut have also added their names to the list of winners.
- It is also the birthplace of Clarisse Agbégnénou, the French judoka. Designated flag bearer of the delegation during the Olympic Games of Tokyo in 2020, she won 2 gold medals during this Olympiad.
